Technical Questions

When attempting to create an image, the following error appears: VSS_E_MAXIMUM_NUMBER_OF_SNAPSHOTS_REACHED?

There could be several reasons:

  1. Not enough disk space on the volume/disk you are trying to image.
  2. On Windows OS, multiple instances of Active@ Disk Image are running together, and all using VSS (Windows OS only supports 1 shadow copy at a time).
  3. On Windows OS, other software using the shadow volume for that drive being imaged, e.g. disk defragmenters, virus scanners, other backup software, etc. (Windows OS only supports 1 shadow copy at a time). Disable/Stop all these other applications.
  4. As a last resort, you can use the disk image software Active@ Disk Image bootable CD to boot-up the system and take an image that way. Using this method to image the system will not utilize the VSS service so the error would never come up.
